There was a crash and kibble spilled in all directions. Odin rushed about to catch the runaway pebbles all the while avoiding my eye. He knew he was not to be anywhere near that bag and yet my kitchen was now covered in dog food. Some times it took all the strength in me to be patient with my dog.
It’s best to leave the clean up for later. Besides, the loose food would keep the dog occupied while I tended to other matters.
Like washing my knife.
Or checking on my guest in the garage.
I turned on the hot water and added dish washing liquid before dumping the blade, scarf and all into the sink. There was an excited side of myself that wanted nothing more than to to head straight for my workspace and leave the washing for later just as I left the brown pellets on the floor. However, that would not be wise. An unexpected guest, or unplanned plumbing issue could turn troublesome if the blade was not promptly cleaned and returned its sheath.
As I carefully washed my knife, I found my thoughts drifting to my guest. It had taken several weeks of careful planning and foresight to capture the known superhero. Meticulous steps were taken as I set up the perfect trap to take her down. After the anticipation and build up it would turn out that my greatest asset was not my detailed planning but simple dumb luck.
Another crash tore me from my daydreams. A pile of books were now on the floor. The sound startled my husky who slinked away into the living room. I do not know how he managed to make the books fall and it was not like he would tell me. Picking up the books, I hear an unfamiliar metallic clinking sound. Under the side table, I find a small bronze metallic owl. It reminded me of Bubo from Clash of the Titans. The little owl kept repeating the clinking sound and the feet moved as if walking forward. I placed it on the ground and watched it shuffle along. Picking the item up again, I was filled with both curiosity and dread. This marvelous looking device was truly interesting but how did it get into my house?
I inspected the owl searching for an off switch. Grooves were carved into the metal give the look of feathers. There was a little spring that was hidden under a groove. Pressed the spring and the eyes lit up as the owl began to quickly change shape. I felt a dizzying sensation and the room began to spin as I hit the ground. Odin began to bark furiously as the metal creature took on the form of a fox, the emblem of my arch nemesis.
I should have put away my knife, were my last thoughts before the world went black.
