I Regret Nothing begins with Jen being driven to the airport by her husband Fletch for an all girls trip (dubbed Spring Break by Fletch.) Jen tries to explain how different her life is now from her college days. This reflection on middle age, next steps in life and other events from her trip lead Jen to decide to create a “bucket list.”
Throughout the memoir, Jen details the many ways she works to knock things off her list. Among the goals she sets forth to accomplish: learn another language, ride a bike, discover a new hobby and have a meaningful meeting with a celebrity. Not everything is rosy as Jen finds herself corralling her pit bulls, shovelling water from a flooded basement, and battling social media trolls. Yet, she tackels each hurdle with the zeal that resulted in her success in Bitter is the New Black and the comedic wit her fans adore.
Her regular readers may notice Jen’s use of paranthems and “sidebars.” These asides have taken over for the former footnotes that were pretty simple to follow in print but made reading her eBooks a nightmare. eBook fans will truly appreciate this transition.
Jen is extremely entertaining in her story telling. There are no over the top punchlines or overly crude humor (though she’s known to drop a few f-bombs.) Just a woman out to prove its never too early or too late to take on new challenges. Her hilarious journey features some truly moving moments without becoming too sentimental. One cannot help but root for Jen as she crosses items off her list all the while adding unplanned completed items to check off because “…yes, those count.”
